There are many reasons why your children should learn how to swim, but the most important reason is for the safety of your child’s life.
According to WHO, in 2019 estimated that 236 000 people died from drowning, making drowning a major public health problem worldwide, and becoming the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury death.
WHO also noted that, globally, the highest drowning rates are among children 1–4 years, followed by children 5–9 years, and in Western Pacific Region children aged 5–14 years die more frequently from drowning than any other cause.
Even though fencing the swimming pool and monitoring your children whenever they are in the water able to prevent them from drowning, but teaching them to know how to swim is still the most essential skill that saves them from drowning. And this swimming skill will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
Other Reason Why Your Children Should Learn Swimming
Swimming is a fun activity, and can be done by people of all ages, especially for children who love getting in the water. Besides that, swimming also gives many health benefits which can make your children healthy and happy.
Swimming will make your children’s heart and lungs healthy, improves strength and flexibility, increases stamina, and even improves balance and posture as well.
Swimming also provides self-confidence for your children to do other water sport activities, such as; diving, snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, canoeing, etc.
Drowning can happen in any kind of water – bathtubs, toilet bowls, ponds, or small plastic pools. So, don’t let your guard down, even if the water isn’t deep, but the most important things for the safety of your children are their swimming skill and their water safety knowledge.
